 Why Interviewers Ask About Your Greatest Weaknesses

So why do interviewers ask about weaknesses when they know that most candidates don’t answer honestly?

They’re trying to get past your nice, presentable interview facade and get a sense of what you’re really like to work with — the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Even if you don’t answer honestly, your answer tells them something about you. If you dodge the question or try to fake your way through, the interviewer will wonder if:

1) You’ve got scary secret weaknesses that you won’t discuss.

2) You think you’re perfect because you have no self-awareness.

3) You think you’re perfect because your standards are very low.

4) You’re a con artist. (this may be okay if you’re in politics or public relations)

strong interviewers get tripped up with the weakness question. It can be very difficult to talk about your flaws in a stressful situation like a job interview.

a) Choose a “Good” Weakness

b) Demonstrate That You Are Working on Your Weakness

 

My answer: 

I think one area I could work on is my delegation skills. I am always so concerned about everything being done right and on time that I can get stuck in that mentality of “If you want it done right, do it yourself.” Unfortunately, that’s not always possible and I’ve realized that I can slow things down if I am too controlling.

I learned this recently when given the opportunity to manage the department’s interns. I had never managed direct reports before, so this was a hugely challenging experience in many different ways. It definitely taught me how to delegate and my manager noticed the difference in my management style. I know that I can benefit from additional development in this area, so I think signing up for a management skills training course is necessary and am always looking for opportunities to acquire new skills by engage  group discussion on bayt.

During a job interview , do we have to answer this question : "What are the greatest weaknesses?"

 

Frankly, the answer is no.

I do not like this question because of the I got my number of types of answers, "boasted the humble." Where the typical answers excessively, for example, "I'm working very hard" or "I am very excited about the project," or any other similar answers. I do not ask this question. Unfortunately, the other people in job interviews by asking this question.

 

Honesty is what I value in a job interview. And circumvented the person to make his weaknesses seem like strengths and is not helping me at all configure opinion about his character.

 

Do you know what that affects? When describing the person's real weaknesses, and then tell me how it is to recognize it and work to resolve them.

 

At one of job interview a candidate said  me :" it's difficult for him to follow up on the tasks entrusted him, as he is fully focused on the task in front of him are currently only". Then he added, describing how he uses Outlook calendar to manage your reminders and follow-ups, and then adapt the workflow of that blind spot. It was something owned and is still suffering from it, but it was fully aware of this, and works effectively to improve it. (We have set this person)

 

The people make mistakes and that they have weaknesses. If it was difficult for you to talk about in a job interview, if I am concerned that you hide your weakness and your mistakes citizen when it works I have. Give me something real, and allow me to meet you right knowledge. The short answer is :

Yes, but it's not about your weak points. Nor is it about your strengths, too. But for your self-awareness.

 

Lengthy answer (is scientifically more): The most important of the weaknesses is how to overcome them and deal with them at the moment. Ideally, the question should be: "Tell me about how to overcome one of the weak points?". Rather than, "What are the greatest weaknesses?" This ruled out any possibility of misunderstanding between the two parties at the table, the question is clear and explicit. This indicates that runs from the interview and conscious, and has the ability to really address the true answer.

 

But, unfortunately, is not the way in which the question is asked habit.

 

Because of the way he worded the question, the burden of understanding the real intention behind the question to become a candidate, not on who runs the interview.

 

So, how you can use this opportunity in a profitable scenario for both parties?

 

If you are a candidate and asked to share one of your weaknesses, does not disclose those points that have not yet how you deal with it or overcome it discovered. Honesty about the weaknesses that you can not overcome them openly can backfire, and will tend to believe that you should be your weaknesses do not participate in any other interview. Why put salt on the wound? Then covered it first! If you have weaknesses know how to handle it, then certainly on your strategy and explain how to beat them, and then to focus less on the actual points of weakness.

 

If you're of the appointment or manages the interview and ask questions, you have to understand how to ask questions in a different need. Tell the candidate to work because you want to know the strategies used to deal with his weaknesses, and that you are not interested in knowing what are the weaknesses. You can not claim to know his weakness without showing that you can handle it and respect his sincerity. If I tell you point the candidate has a weakness, it would not be polite to end the interview at this point, as this indicates that you're looking for someone who has no weaknesses - and is unreasonable and unrealistic. [The best way to handle the situation is to] move to question the candidate on the spot about how to deal with this weakness or his plans to overcome it.

Generally this type of question will be posed towards the end of the interview. The interviewer would already have ascertained your weaknesses & now is testing your self awareness. basically it involves character traits & not skills since skills can be improved through training.

You need to be honest yet play down your weakness. In case you are short tempered, say you do get irritated at times under certain circumstances. In case you are an introvert you could say that you are choosy in making friends/acquaintances. A follow up question is that what have you done to improve yourself. For this you need to have an answer ready.

There are alot of weekness in human , how can I  remmber all my weekness , then how to tell any one about my weekness , will any one help me to fix my weekness specially my boss or well he make me more weak , it may be depend on the boss , if he is a good man , I may tell him about my weakness to help me to avoid that , any way I think no one think alot about his inside weekness , we all search for outside weakness and try to be the best from outside not from inside , for example I want to be number one on my field even if i break some one to do that , some people feal so bad If they are not number one . and that  is not a good fealing because if you are number one here you may be number 0 else where , your brain is not deffer than any one else , your buty is not differ than any one else , arzak
