Group activities are always more fun when everyone spends long hours together, but I like the idea of having a personal space to recollect one's thoughts and reply to mundane e-mails!

Sharing a cramped office space can leave you feeling trapped in a recurring nightmare. It requires you to adjust to other’s habits, quirks and preferences. But unlike a college roommate situation you can’t give your office mates a 30-day notice and move.  Consider these tips shared-office etiquette and apply them to help minimize conflicts and maximize productivity:

  1. Keep it short and sweet: When talking over-the-phone or face-to-face, try to keep conversations brief.  Take lengthy conversations elsewhere, perhaps a conference space.
  2. Take personal phone calls away:  Spare your officemates the deets of your after-work plans or your feud with your significant other. As strong as your impulses might be to accept a personal call (especially when your phone is ringing), it’s best to let it go voicemail and return it in private. This way your brouhahas and your after work plans remain private.
  3. Own your smells:  Let’s be honest. For many, lunch is the next best thing to clocking out at the end of the workday.  So enjoy lunch, but think twice before eating potent-smelling foods like fish, hoagies with onions and garlicky entrees. When lunching at your desk, quickly dispose of trash elsewhere. This way you avoid being the culprit for lunch-gate within your office.
  4. Use a minimalist approach: Limit your workspace to the essential commonly-used equipment and supplies. It’s okay to add keepsakes like photos or other trinkets but try not to go overboard.
  5. Ask before borrowing: Before you borrow your officemate’s stapler or stack of Post-its ask. On a given workday, there’s nothing worse than reaching for your stapler only to find it has a new home on your co-workers desk. Consider pooling commonly used items to avoid desk-nabbing.
  6. Be considerate: If you’re a fan of talk radio or like to stream music throughout the day consider grabbing a pair of ear buds (that is, unless your employer prohibits the use of them). Your officemate will thank you.

The situation varies and will depend on demand and working environment. Whatever the condition is, the privacy should be maintained in every course.

Right now I'm having my own cabin, complete privacy but sometime it irritates me as I am quite a socially active person. When I feel this I go out, give a round around talk to my subordinates, other team leaders and get relaxed. :)

It is better to have individual office to keep safely the confidential subjects various businesses. Each and every office should have various confidential matters. we can't keep confidentiality in a sharing office place. It could be changed based on the type of job and positions in businesses.
