I want to introduce some creative techniques that will develop the computer skills of my high-school level students, that will help them in their careers in the future. What are the best techniques to start with, in your opinion?

I suggest the following resources that may prove helpful for students to acquire computer skills before college :

Alice.org offers a3D programming environment to help students across all ages learn about object-oriented programming. Downloads, licensing and tutorials are available.

Codecademy.com offers anyone the opportunity to learn how to code for free using simple examples and methods.

Codepupil.com uses simple games, like its “Code Stitch”, and exercises to teach kids to code with HTML and CSS.

Code.org teaches the basics in computer science through a tutorial that uses drag-and-drop programming. A K-8 Intro to Computer Science course to hours long is available to kids as young as age six.

ComputerScienceForKids.com offers four different language-programming tracks for home-schooled students as well as curriculum for teachers that can be used in the public classroom.

DaisyTheDinosaur is an iPad app that introduces students ages five to eight basic logic and allows them to drag one-word commands into the programming space.

Hackety.com teaches students the basics of the Ruby programming language, which is used for applications and websites. Online courses include An Introduction to Ruby and An Introduction to Programming.

Kodable is an iPad game to teach children as young as age five how to develop coding skills. Learning tools are also available for students as advanced as theth grade.

PluralSight knows that kids are already experts in technology and offers free courses such as Teaching Sudents to Program and Learning to Build Apps with App Inventor.

Scratch.MIT.edu offers a visual programming language developed by the MIT Media Lab, allowing kids to build interactive animations, games and stories. More than4.9 million projects have already been shared on the site.

TeachKidstoProgram.com provides suggestions for websites, software, hardware and books, such as “Python for Kids” by Jason Briggs, to use to develop children’s interest in programming.

TeamTreeHouse.com provides the chance to learn about web coding and design through more than1, videos created by expert instructors. Knowledge is tested through interactive coding challenges and quizzes.

Udemy.com provides a number of courses for children including a fairly inexpensive Kids Coding-Beginner HTML that is tailored toward young learning styles and includes a final project.

 

 

MS Office is a must have in the curriculum for school children. 

In terms of presentation skills or video presentation, edit, copy, photo editing is required.

Computer skills or any other kind of skills is best learnt  through practice. Hence, you may ask them to do an internet search about anything that would support the content and the aim of your lesson then student would present their findings to the class and make this part of an assignment. Also, to you may ask them to give a powerpoint presentation.    

first of all you must interact with the student and know what they are all intrested in and try to connect it with the data or skills you want to give them. For exampe, when i had my student group as a teacher assistant (in mathematics) all my students were interested in soccer so i made it as a reward to play a match after an exam. most importnant problem these days is the lack of student-teacher interaction which could help in the educational system alot and help student learn much better as they get interested

In my opinion, you need to start with the three basic elements for improving computer skills in hifh school levels and these are:- Productivity tools- (Microsoft word, powerpoint and excel) Multimedia-(video editing and photoshop) Computer-(Troubleshooting/programming).

In my opinion, i think the best to motivate and introduce my students to a significant knowledge, its to show them examples from their real life, things they likes..Its iportant to use power point and do it as significant as i can, and i can do this only knowing every single each of my students

In my opinion, there is no such thing as creative techniques if we’re talking about “-to start with”, it’s in the middle. However, if we are going to talk about helpful techniques to enhance them on the latter for creativity techniques, start off with letting them master or make utmost familiarisation of the three basic elements of improving computer skills for high school level students: 

 - Productivity Tools(Word, Powerpoint, Excel)

 - Multimedia(Photoshop, Video Editing)

 - Computer Programming / Troubleshooting

 

 

If your students would have ample knowledge about those elements, you would be able to see a great leap on their career. Nowadays, computer skills are needed in an industry. It is very important to pinpoint the potential of your students and as a teacher you can see that. For those with artistic talents, making them focus on creative designs through engaging them in projects and competitions would be healthy to hone their skills and mastery of the application. Those whom you think work on productivity should be focused on the flexibility of the tools for them to use. On the other hand, the geeks as we say which are naturals in logic and fixing computers should be introduced more to computer skills. Also, it’s good for them to be jack-of-all-trades but having each of your students to have a focused skill can definitely boost their interest and careers in the future.

According to me the best thing is always to involve the students in an assignment based on the skills we intend to introduce in the students. Assigning mentors will be an even greater advantage. I give my students research work on business set ups as it is closely related to the subject and gives them real life skills.
