I don't support that. Most, if not all ERPs could be implemented in phases. I believe that this will be a better approch if you have the option.

Implementing an ERP which is considered to be temporary will almost always fail, other than the fact that you will bare the initial investment, the implementation cost, and most importantly you will have to modify your processes to match that intermediate ERP.

Two important points in this question:

- What governs the business ERP or SOP "Standard Operating Procedures"?

- What is best gradual strategy to start with mid tire system and to migrate for bigger ERP or to start directly with ERP on small scale implementation?

First of all SOP governs the business including the ERP the approach of implementing business solution even with small "ERP" to enhance process and procedure can be accepted only in work environment that suffers from lack of basic organizational and operational practices.

For gradual move toward the dreamed of ERP applying vanilla implementation is better than implementing small ERP, vanilla implementation will provide stability simplicity and will mitigate migration risk from small to big system and will keep historical data consistent, once organization is mature enough for bigger modules and more functionality in normal situation this happens within2 years then we can scale up our ERP to bigger modules and more functions.

If company have enough fund and meaningful requirement ( business expansion) to implement ERP, then BIG ERP must be the choice. Managing alternate and mini ERPs are not that easy, you also don't get all the required informations that you need to drive the business.

dear its depending on the company, if the company is very small then you have no need for the ERP in the first place, then the ERP size will depend on the company size, but in my opinion you should implement a mini ERP to control your employees and your company resources, the ERP is the full system to control your business and your employees, but to make your ERP perfect you have to use something called workflow with auto response with timing from the ERP.

Yes, This is better approach. But for this company needs to have very good clear directions and future vision.
