Which is better for calculating the returns of investment between NPV and IRR?

although the method used depends on other factors like type of investment,period of investment etc..,IRR is better in calculating the return on investment,as NPV calculation needs assumptions and is complex and confusing in getting a number

IRR (although left out some unforeseen elements) is consistent with same discount rate and ease of deducing to a single agreed number in analysis investment.
