A Strategic Business Unit is a separately managed unit of an Enterprise with its own strategic objectives. Normally it is created to target a specific market which requires a management specialty not contained within the parent company.

A Strategic Business Unit can consist of an entire company or can simply be a smaller part of the company set up to perform a specific task. It has its own strategy and objectives and these will often be different from those of the parent company.
