PRIMARY STORAGE OR MAIN MEMORY (R.A.M)?

Primary Storage presently known as main memory or simple R.A.M (Random Access Memory) is the only directly accessible to the C.P.U continuously reads instructions store their on execute then as required. Any data actively operated on is also staring uniform manner, Memory store three basic categories of data.

·  Operating system and other system software that control or maintain the computer and its devices.

·  Application programs that carry out a specific task , such as word processing etc.

·  Data to be processed by the application programs and resulting information. Ram varies in size like128 MB,256 MB,512 MB, to2 GB. RAM cannot store data and instruction permently , when we switch of the computer all data and instruction are washed and vanished , therefore it is called volatile memory.

·  ROM:- (Basic input and output storage system). ROM stand for Read Only Memory. It consist of those instruction that prepare the computer for use. These instruction are automatically loaded into the main memory. What cannot be change for deleted. It is not possible to write new instruction into the ROM. It stores data and instruction permently. When we switch off the computer , the instruction stored in the ROM or not lost. Therefore it is called a Non Volatile memory.
