I think you are wasting time,

what ever you are doing doesn't matter just see around you which department has more opportunity to find the job.

 well, From my point of view, It is a place where not many engineers exist, so, it is interesting 

and it is "never "waste of time.

We are only a few years away from having software that does the design for you, so yes, not exactly a "growth career" option.
