How do you prevent an overgrowth of interconnected Excel Workbooks in your business?

An excess of interconnected excel files can make you loose your grip on your analysis and management reporting and complicates insight in the information flow.. Do you have a strict policy on the use of Excel files for analysis and management reporting?

I don't think you should restrict the use of Excel files because they are the best analysis tool, but  I suggest you to  try your best to avoid external links between files, keep the formulas within the same file nd avoid duplicated spreadsheets

Hi All, Yes interconnected excel sheets if not controlled for your analysis and reporting can create a havoc in your data management and may lead to valuable time wastage.
i experienced in my organization that interconnected excel sheets when not propely managed( eg.
sheets copies made in same workbook & / moved to other workbooks) increased the file size of the to *Megabytes that opening such files would slow down the computer.
Resolution taken in these cases by IT was introduce Business Intelligence systems, Internal IT  programmed / Managed applications which were made as per discussed with the respective business units.
This could reduce the dependency on Excel for your analysis / reporting tasks.
i would like to mention this still lies on the sole discretion of the business unit willing to spend on developing this future well managed systems.
Thanks Johan for this query.
Take care and have a gr8 day Ladies and gentlemen reading this blog.
