As a candidate you need to know your own value so you won't sell yourself short.
You do your home work to see how much does that specific position pay, then you ask the question when time comes to negotiate your salary: " What's my market value as a ...
( your position )?'', then if you are not satisfied with the salary, you go on saying:'' What stands in the way of paying me more, because I was expecting...?"
