Languages, in general, have four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
We can classify the writing and speaking skills as PRODUCTIVE SKILLS.
That means it's the student who invent the text if written or the speech if spoken.
Listening and reading, on the other hand, can be considered as COMPREHENSIVE skills.
This means that you can understand the language of others throw these skills.
English say 'You are what you eat' and I usually say to my students 'You write what you read'.
But how to read? First of all, you need to be SELECTIVE.
You have to make sure that you have great works written by great authors.
We can also tell the students that we have3 stages of reading:1.
Pre-reading2.
Reading3.
Post reading I don't want to go into details in these areas but students should know that sometimes they don't need to read it all.
They should also be familiar with some terms such as Topic Sentence.
The same thing can be applied for listening.
In listening to music, you have to ensure that the lyrics are useful with a good deal of vocabulary and expressions.
Finally, listening and reading are skills just like playing the piano or riding a bicycle.
You need to PRACTICE them a lot in order to get great results.
I hope that will help.

Yes, I do agree that reading in English improves our language as well as our our writing.
But I don't agree that listening to music so so, too because most lyrics are written in colloquial not standard English.

yes I agree with that Especially if you use a facebook and make a forigner friends , It is also good way to improve your language.
you can have a conversation with your friends in enlish.
But I think just listening to the music is not enough , you should speak in english in your routine life.
