Can a software engineer jump into sales and marketing?

Just because I studied computer science/ information science , does that mean I can't do Marketing and sales? Will it be difficult to switch or can i adapt to that change!?

EVERY BODY CAN JUMP INTO SALES AND MARKETING WHICH IS HAVING GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND HAVING VAST KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE PRODUCT WHICH HE/SHE HAVE TO SALES/MARKET.
SALES AND MARKETING IS NOT A TOUGH JOB IF U WORK HARD AND IS NOT A SOFT JOB IS DONT TAKE TENSION OF YOUR WORK.

Marketing is a job which needs only a positive attitude with any present machandise , good interpersonal and communication skills,being self or goal motivated nothing much or less. 

With that, this is the best job you can ever have which pays according to your input ,

And in life learning doesn't end, people changes careers due to what profits them or who can hire them 

I am that example, i have never done what i studied,yet,i fit in all environment

the simple answer is yes you can.

just you have to have :

01. excellent communication skill.

02.have to know how to managw the people outside of your circle.

03. how encourage the people to the the unknown things.

I believe no matter what the occupation of an individual is he/she can be successful only if he/she is able to sell himself and a person who can sell him self is successful no matter what occupation they belong to.
Hence this is the key factor for any one to jump into marketing /sales

Skills required for software engineering and sales/marketing are very different.
Successful people is sales/marketing do have good communication skills on top of other "social" and business skills.
If you feel that you have or can develop these skills, why not giving yourself a chance to switch and adapt to that different environment? Seriously, that move is more likely to succeed than the opposite: have you often seen sales/marketing guys who can successfully turn into software engineers? All the best
