The main theme in identifying you target markert is Marketing Reearch. First you need to research about the dynamics & characteristics of your business environment. Know & understand the demographics of the environment for instance; age brackets, social classes, education levels, levels of income, attitudes & beliefs, persptions & superistions, occupational aspects, consumption behaviours & buying decisions etc. If you have this information at hand, develop marketing strategies of getting to the choice of targeted market. Sieve through & analyse this information in relation to marketing need or goal or objective you have at hand. At this point, there will a target group from this information  that matches your goal or your product range that you wish to serve to the customers.

the easiest way to identify your target market is to know your product well and its applications. for example if you take a normal printer used in industries, there will be different classes. the advanced and expensive printer would be used big companies and MNCs, whereas a medium class printer would be used by medium and small scale industries. hence it is very important to know where your product falls and what all its applications.
