One of the most important factors in planning is to have a full team with different expertise working with you. One man is not enough to create a plan that can forecast most of the problems that can occur during the execution. But you always need a leader for that team to control the information provided by the team members and to keep the team from going off-topic, this leader should be a person who has alot of experience in the domain of the project (The PM is the one that fits this position).
