I would like to add to what Mr.Ghani said. In order to call a place(physical/virtual) a market buyers & sellers should not only meet but make meaningful exchanges as well. In ancient times when there was no currency(printed notes & coins) people used to exchange stuff they do not want or have excess of in return for something else they want. In modern market places we can give currency in exchange for whatever product/service we want.
Marketing is a very broad term for the actions employed by the sellers in any market to have the end result of exchanging their product/service offering in return for currency or other benefits. Recommend that you read "Marketing Management" by Philip Kotler if you are interested in learning more about Marketing.
