Projects are short term or periodical jobs for the business to go on, while operations are ongoing till the end of the business.

Project has a specific deadline where as an operation is an ongoing process and project has its own objective where as an operation inherits the same from that of organization etc.

TIME FRAME FOR PROJECTS........... OPERATIONS ARE RUNNING THE SHOW TILL IT GOES...

Projects starts and ends at a point. However, Operations is an on-going activity.

Projects has a set life-span.  Operations is ongoing and part of the value chain also contributing to make a project happen.
