Try working in a small firm and try to understand how things are done practically. Normally theory is different from practice. When you gain some experience you would be able to understand the real standing of the company from the Balance Sheet. You should be able to make the balance sheet balance. Even in this electronic age the main test of the accountant is to balance the balance sheet. You should understand the deference between capital and revenue receipts and expenses.   One piece of advice brother never balance capital receipts with revenue expenses. If you do the capital will get depleted and the company will vanish very soon.

Perfect is not the right word, may be competent will do.
You can practice using your daily activities.
Record of your receipts from your purchases, the cash received and your I.O.U's.
Summarized it into categories, like per type of expenses, who's cash you owe from, or to whom are you going to pay.
Then to make a ledger or T-account for your summary and separate any cost that has future use and those you don't consider has no use at all put it right away as expense.
And anything that has future value consider that as your assets, your loans and payable will your liabilities and your cash on hand will be your net worth.
Try to do budgeting and be cost conscious.
May be that you can have a good idea how accounting goes in a very easy way and you're an accountant to yourself for now until such time you'll have a job.
Softwares will enhance you more but first you have to fully understand the basics.

Ouch, I am afraid that is almost impossible, meanwhile try to install some accounting softwares on your pc " simply accounting, ACCPAC ...etc." and just practise till you get a job.
