There are a few facts you need to keep in mind when you’re setting up units of measure in your ERP system and when you are working with the conversion factors within the software.

1.       Whenever feasible it is recommended that you use the smallest unit of measure as the base and define all alternates with the conversion type “Base per Unit”. This minimizes the instances of decimal quantities during conversion calculations.

2.       Each “unit” defined must be unique. If a box sometimes contains10 each of an item and other times contain12 each of an item youmust use a separate name for each type of box.

3.       Partial quantities are usually the result of an incorrectly defined unit of measure conversion or an item defined to allow decimal quantities inappropriately.

4.       Decimal precision for units with decimal values.

5.       The rounding method for units with decimal values.

It seems to me that this is a very special aspect of ERP systems used in customer organizations/industries dealing with discrete quantities as in the case of manufacturing or retail .  How can this apply to oil & gas or electric power companies for example ??  or banking ?? or government ??

So the best advice is to base your decisions on clear and accurate understanding of the specifics of the business where the ERP is to beimplemented, the modules/feature of the ERP system to be implemented, and the nature of inputs/outputs asspciated with the different  modules of this ERP system

I think regularity and data managment with analysis
