Have you ever become a target of spear-phishing attack offering you a hard-to-believe job in the Gulf?

Well, I became a target for spear-phishing attacks! Eventually that was going to happen though. Any one of us employees, job seekers, employers etc. post a good deal of personal or professional detail on sites like LinkedIn. But let's get in details:1. So a few days ago I received an invitation that LIWA Oil and Gas, located in the UAE is hiring a range of specialists and encouraged me to send them my resume. which I did even though I knew well that supply is far greater than demand in the Gulf countries these days. So LESSON ONE: EVALUATE THE REAL JOB MARKET LOGICALLY. WOULD SOMEONE REALLY SEND AN IMPERSONAL OPEN INVITATION TO APPLY LIKE THAT?2. A few days later I receive a notification that my resume was shortlisted and they sent a questionnaire with it. Not unreasonable, so I filled out a questionnaire. One question was: POSITION APPLYING FOR. Really? LESSON TWO: COMPANIES HIRE FOR SPECIFIC POSITIONS.3. But I continued to play the game. So a few days later I receive a luxurious hard-to believe job offer for. HSE Manager. Even though I'm an IT Risk and Audit Specialist. LESSON THREE: NO ONE WILL OFFER YOU A SERIOUS JOB WITHOUT INTERVIEWING YOU FIRST!4. So I got tired of it and looked up the entity's domain info and sure enough: Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: +1- Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited Registry Registrant ID: DI_ Registrant Name: tasiana Benjam Registrant Organization: Clarion Inc Registrant Street:438 Willow rd Registrant City: abuja Registrant State/Province: rivers Registrant Postal Code:54874 Registrant Country: NG (Nigeria - RP) Registrant Phone: +234. Registrant Phone Ext: Registrant Fax: Registrant Fax Ext: Registrant Email: LESSON FOUR, OR IT SHOULD BE LESSON ONE: RUN A WHOIS ON THE WEBSITE AND SEE WHERE AND HOW IT IS REGISTERED. Thank you, Roman

Hasn't everyone? However, not specifically offering a "hard to believe" job offering.

Most of these tend to be offering the transfer of a large sum of money in exchange for your bank details.

Golden rule here is:

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Delete the email and forget it.

Yes I was a target once but I directly recognized that was a fake offer. Generally, they send to you a questionnaire to fill in and then you will get a job offer without interview with quiet a good salary but not to high to be it stays credible. Those things are common in the GCC market especially in the UAE
