What is the difference between OSPF Intra-Area routes and Interarea routes ?

intra area-a route to a subnet or network inside the same area as the router.

 

inter area-a route to a subnet in an area of which the router is not a part.

Inter Area ---------à    Between different Area

Intra Area -----------à Within the same Area.

Inter Area…                        Routes that are originate in one area and advertised into another area. Router on the border between area generated LSA, which advertise LSA from one area into other. i.e Router that has interface in area0 and in area6. It generate type3 LSA for an area0 and advertise it area6 and vice versa.

Intra Area.                          When a router inside the area learned and generate routes    for same area is called intra area. OSPF uses type1 and type2 LSA for intra area advertisement.

Intra area routes meant for the routers inside same area.

Inter area routes meant for the routers between two or more different area , moreover inter area routes are generated by ABR router.

OSPF Intra-Area routes are those learned from same OSPF area and in routing table these are found with identification ‘O’ whereas OSPF Inter-Area routes are those which are originated in some other OSPF area advertised in our routing table with identification ‘O IA’ …VIA interface…….
