  1. Install the USB Disk Security and MS Security Essentials antivirus on your PC.
  2. Scan your PC and Pen Drive with both tools.
  3. Clean/delete the infected files.
  4. Open your pen drive and delete all the shortcuts present there.
  5. Enable the option Show Hidden System Files and Folders  from the folder options menu.
  6. Click on Start=>All Programs=>Accessories=> CMD, right click on it and run it as Administrator.
  7. Type attrib -H -S G:*.* /S /D /L in the command line and hit Enter. (Replace G with the pen drive letter)
  8. Now open your Pen drive and it will display all your files and folders which were previously converted into shortcuts.

I think that there are many programs dedicated to it, which vary according to the efficiency, effectiveness and you choose between free and commercial, although the latter is better for the experience:

USB Flash Drive Autorun Antivirus-

Avast AntiVirus Professional Edition USB-

USB Disk Security-

USB Virus Scan-

USB Scan-

Norton360 Premier Edition-

Kaspersky Anti-Virus -

Microsoft Security Essentials-

Avira Premium Security Suite-

The pen drive could be the most important source of virus to affect the computer after the internet which is the primary source.

·         The1st step would be to scan the pen drive before downloading anything from it. This is a good habit. And this is the main precautionary measure that can be taken so that the computer is never affected by virus from the pen drive.

·         Now if the scan detects presence of virus on the pen drive. You have to format the pen drive or run recovery on the pen drive. Click START + RUN and type cmd, press ENTER. To determine the drive letter, open MY COMPUTER and look at the flash drive. It should say something along the lines of "USB JUMP DRIVE (E:)". In this case, E is the drive letter. It may be different on your computer, depending on how many drives you have mounted.

·         It is advisable do not try to save any existing files or back up any files from the infected flash  drive as each file could be affected by virus. There are virus like TROJAN which like the troajan horse lie hidden before affecting the main computer.

·         Copy the files back to the flash that you saved. After the drive is formatted, everything stored on it will be gone, including the virus. It's now safe to copy your files back to the drive.

·         Always scan your computer after this procedure as the virus could migrate from the external USB storage device to your main drive.

·         Every file you copy could be infected, if you can't afford to lose an infected document or picture, print it out and scan it back to the computer from paper.

·         Prevention is always better than cure. So be very careful while downloading any file from any unknown source. Always scan them before downloading.
