Generally VM Ware is better than all Citrix, Hyper V and Virtual Box etc. But I suggest to use VMWare on linux/Unix environment. Hyper V in Microsoft environment and Citrix for desktop virutalization.
From my point of view
VMware more suitable for virtualizing servers and desktop in terms of manageability and cost
Citrix is better in Application virtualization.
in my point of view vm ware virtualisation is good for server virtualisation.and for applications,desktops citrix is the lead.end user experience is very good with citrix when compared to vmware

I am using VMware and HyperV from last3 years but VMware found best for virtualization. Its latest version has more amazing feauters.
if you looking Application virtualization and VDI Citrix will be better

Features and value for money: Citrix
God like Stablity and performance: VMware (very expensive)
offcourse this isn't enough or the way you audit to choose a hypervisor.

Citrix is better in Applications & Desktop Virtualization
Vmware is good for Server virtualization however cost wise its too high, Moreover many customer going with Hyper-V with Citrix combition for Desktop & Applications virutalization (DaaS & SaaS)
VMWare . Industry proven. Robust . And Industry leader as one of the Pioneer. Remember Virtualization is a relatively new technology, VMWare as a pioneer did manage to iron out a lot of bugs.
