which one of these persons has better chance to find a new job? focused in one indusrty or experience in many industries?

A person who has broad experience in different industries is in a better position to find a new job faster - as he has more job opportunities suitable to his varied experience, but there is a probability that he can not get a high salary that he desires.

 

On the other hand, a person who has been focused in one industry can find a new job longer but most likely, he will be offered a high salary that he desires because Employers prefer a person who has been focused for long years in a specific industry as he is perceived to be expert in that industry.

The first focused person will find the job he wnats with better remuniration but in longer time, the second will find a job faster.

I see that persons with good experiences in more than an industry (within his/her profession) stand a better chance of getting a job.

Its better to have more exposure to different environments, industries, expertises so one can develop better skills and perspective at work; also applies to even general in life.

Having expertise in one field is good; but also limiting oneself to that trade or skill; with the present world and changing technologies on day to day basis its going to be tougher in the end.

It is a bit tricky question but we can create two scenarios to answer it in a better way.

1. A person having experience in a single industry is considered better than one who have a record of experience in more than one industries.

2. A person having experience in many co-related industries has a better chance to be selected than a person with only single industry experience.

 

So the difference is of multi industry experience in quite opposite or irrelavant industries and multi industry experience in co-related industries.

One who has a set goal and knows how to attain it.

I some cases Multi-experience is a Negative Point in CV Like a Medical Sales Representative must not claim in his CVs that he may look after all type of Engineering Sales also.

 

While in some cases, Multi-Experience is a Positve Point in CV like a Mechnical Engineer may have also somewhat Electrical / Instrumentation & Civil Engineering Experience also.

Further same Engineer may have worked for Different Industries like Chemical, Power, Textile etc.

It depends on two things:

1. Functional need

2. Strategic need

If any position need functional work, he/she has more chance for getting job in single industry because functional position needs relevant experience. If any position needs strategic work , he/she has more chance for getting job in group industries.

In one field you can be expert,in more than one you can be good to a lot of them you can be confused,,,,,,,,,,,,

better to have one industry but in case of management it does not apply.

I beleive the person should have more chances to get the job who worked for mulitpal companies. Because he have had exposure to different industries. And when some one work for so many companies he makes mistakes and it is saying that you learn from your  mistakes, on the other hand a person have experience in the same field he get used to that sector and he can not make any progress to the company.
