My answer would be Andre Breton's quote "I don't want to change the rules of the game, I want to change the game"

Try to convince your boss that your perspective is more accurate than his/hers. Don't just assert that, be convincing. Back up your beliefs with substance. Describe specific situations and accounts, and explain why you think about them the way you do. Prove your point.

This often happens and I have seen this in many cases. You have to allow the company to grow you the way they want while keeping in your mind that you are drifting away of your own goals... Oh! wait, no... You have to do the opposite! Or simply seek for a better opportunity elsewhere. Remember time is money. Spend it well...

You are, after all, an employee of the company.  Your job is to do what your company wants you to do.  That’s what they pay you for. If you are not happy than you should look for other opportunity.

But my suggestion is keep working till you find a better opportunity which will satisfy you.

If you can't change it and the job is rewarding on other fronts, I'd say there's no losing in showing more flexibility and patience, till the next better goal matching job "flaunt its advertisement on your face". Then, go for it and reach your goal.

The best thing you can do is to shake hands and depart but before doing so you must re-access and validate your goals and ensure that you will derive true satisfaction once you achieve it.
