Project sponsor is the most important stakeholder for any project. Because sponsor is the one who provides you funds required to complete the project, and he is the one who is accountable for the project success or failure alongwith the project manager. Without project sponsor's support and faith in project and in project manager, the project cannot succeed.

In Scrum projects, it's the Product Owner...in General terms, Customer.

In order for any project to succeed. It needs first to be supported by the senior management of the company who owns this project. This will establish the ownership, responsability and accountability of the project resources by the senior management. Then the other stakeholedrs will play their role for delivering the outcomes of this project based on their roles.

Project stakeholders are individuals and organizations that are actively involved in the project, or whose interests may be affected as a result of project execution or project completion. They may also exert influence over the project’s objectives and outcomes. The project management team must identify the stakeholders, determine their requirements and expectations, and, to the extent possible, manage their influence in relation to the requirements to ensure a successful project.

The following are examples of project stakeholders:

  • Project leader
  • Project team members
  • Upper management
  • Project customer
  • Resource Managers
  • Line Managers
  • Product user group
  • Project testers
  • Any group impacted by the project as it progresses
  • Any group impacted by the project when it is completed
  • Subcontractors to the project
  • Consultants to the project
