It verifyes your lelvel of knowledge of the established norms, methods, processes and practices of the profession. It is a career boost on its own if you are starting the profession. Experts need a successful track record with the certification to gain their appropriate positions.

I agree with the previous answer but I would like to add an important issue, PMP certification, or it would be better to say the knowledge about standardized Project Management processess, helps you to ensure consistent, quick decisions within your project. And there is not a best career booster than managing properly your projects.
