What is ALV programming in ABAP? When is this grid used in ABAP?-

ALV is Application List viewer.
Sap provides a set of ALV (ABAP LIST VIEWER) function modules which can be put into use to embellish the output of a report.This set of ALV functions is used to enhance the readability and functionality of any report output.
Using ALV, we can have three types of reports: Simple Report Block Report Hierarchical Sequential Report Grid is used as a flexible tool for displaying lists and also used as a tool for changing and creating tables.
It can be made EDITABLE for entry purpose.
In grid, these options are possible, but not in list.

ALV is an ABAP program of type Report.

ALV is used to represent data.

The data can be from SAP transparent tables or from given input ( .xls, .txt, .xml).

Using ALV, we can output the data in either list format or grid format.

ALV Programming is basically for reporting purposes You have mainly Classic ALV and ALV Grid.

 

Classic ALV does not have much Functionalities or the great UI that Business Users usually need.

 

However ALV Grid gives you many options.

In Simple words, ALV means that the interface where it gives the user to display his required data in desired form that may be Grid or List.
