According to Wikipedia :

Public relations (PR) is the practice of managing the spread of information between an individual or an organization and the public.

Marketing communications are messages and related media used to communicate with a market. Marketing communications is the "promotion" part of the "marketing mix" or the "four Ps": price, place, promotion, and product. It can also refer to the strategy used by a company or individual to reach their target market through various types of communication.

 

So you can see from the above that the part of PR plays a moajor role in Marcom. It deals with Marcom's promotional communication meant for the public.

Public relation is the official communication of the corporate body. When a corporate speaks to the press it is through the PR dept. It would be geneaeal information about the company policies. When the corporate body wants to communicate with the market , then the main aim is to grab a market share. Here the strategy would be different. Henre the co is justifying its products and services to the consumer. The media for PR is generally company press releases. The media for an ad campaign would depend upon the target audiance.
