How do you define the difference between Data Mining and Data Science?

In the last two years a new business term has been coined in the BI and Analytics area, that is the term "Data Science", most recently people have been debating two important things: What exactly is Data Science? and what are the skills that define a Data Scientist? Through my humble research on the Internet, I could not find any relevant roles or job descriptions in the middle east that refer to Data Science or even Data Mining in particular. I am starting to wonder if this role is applicable in the middle east and gulf area because I have noticed that a lot of businesses rely on ready-made and packaged solutions when it comes to predictive analytics. Any thoughts on this? and how is Data Science defined in the ME and Gulf area?

The terms data science and data mining often are used interchangeably, and the former has taken a life of its own as various individuals and organizations try to capitalize on the current hype surrounding it.

At a high level, data science is set of fundamental principles that support and guide the principled extraction of information and knowledge from data. Data mining is the extraction of knowledge from data, via technologies that incorporate these principles.

Possibly Data Mining is closely related concept to data science, but data science involves much more than just data-mining algorithms.

Data mining :refers to the science of collecting all the past data and then searching for patterns in this data. You look for consistent patterns and / or relationships between variables. Once you find these insights, you validate the findings by applying the detected patterns to new subsets of data. The ultimate goal of data mining is prediction.

Data Science is an umbrella that contain many other fields like Machine learning, Data Mining, big Data, statistics, Data visualization, data analytics,…

sorry sudheer, I am not going to agree with you both things are much different from each other in data mining you just have to arrange and filter the data in such a way that an analysis can be perform on that data while the data science includes everything in it we arrange the data and then analyse then interpret, evaluate and give recommendations in data science.
