Could you please tell me what is the importance of advertising? why companies spend a hell of funds on advertising?

Advertising is important because it creates market awareness for a product. It is a strategy used by the manufacturer to persuade and convince the consumer that his (the manufacturer’s) goods, products and services are the best value for money for the consumer. Different channels that manufacturers use to advertise their products include radio, television, the internet, posters and word of mouth.

So many companies rely on advertising these days to boost sales of their products or services, to build a connection with their audience and to create competition with their rival firms. It has been suggested that over $400 billion has been spent worldwide on advertising this year, and this spending supports thousands of companies and millions of jobs. Advertising is a marketing tool that is becoming impossible to avoid in everyday life and can range from subtle word of mouth strategies to full blow million dollar media campaigns. Advertising is crucial to a company's success and it is becoming more and more important to be backed by a creative and unique campaign. The first and key factor of advertising is that it will draw an audience's attention to a product or service offered by a company. Potential customers are made aware of the product can benefit them and will give them a reason to invest in it. Advertising is also important to connect to current customers and remind them why they have chosen the right company. Current consumers can also be kept up to date with the latest products and services available to them.

 

Advertising gives companies and businesses the opportunity to build up a brand and an identity. A recent example of this having great success is with the Apple brand. The distinct adverts in both TV and print form are instantly recognisable as the company's own and give it an identity as a clean, modern and reputable brand. Advertisements need to relate to current trends and sell both a product individually as well as the company as a whole. If an advertisement succeeds at both it can help draw an audience to the product or service and build a relationship between the consumer and company. Establishing this connection should lead to a boost in sales for the business.

Advertising is a very important component of marketing and plays a vital role in building up brands and communicating with customers. Advertising is an effective means of communication based on ideas, concept and creativity. Its main objective is to create information, raise awareness, create demand and lead to sales or increased sales.

Nowadays some companies like internet businesses or e commerce rely solely and exclusively on advertising to sell their products and such companies do not even have a selling point or showrooms or sales department.

 

Advertsing is also used to educate people in society on health issues like smoking, liquor drinking or social issues like child abuse and family planning.

Its not correct to say that company's spends hell lot of money on advertising. Advertising spends is directly realted to sales, and advertising budget depends on sales and in most of the cases it ranges from0.5% to10%. 

The retail industry provides some good examples. While Wal-Mart (WMT) might spend a meager0.4% of sales on advertising, the sheer size of the company turns that tiny percentage into a significant budget. Wal-Mart's nominally higher-margin competitor, Target (TGT), spends closer to2% of its sales on advertising, while Best Buy (BBY), as a specialty retailer, spends upwards of3%. Finally, more upscale stores like Macy's typically spend on the order of5%.

The same kind of ratios can be seen in the car industry (automakers' generally spend2.5% to3.5% of revenue on marketing), liquor (5.5% to7.5%), packaged goods (4% to10%), and every other industry.

Advertising is important because its act as a bridge between consumer and the manufacturer.

Advertised by celeberaties make brand more reliable in mind of consumers, and ofcourse fans of celeberteies no doubt boost the sale.

Advertising is one of the most important factor and plays a role in promotion. There is no use of a company launching  a new product when the new product does not reach the targeted customers. Its only when someone hears of a product , they get interested in the same . And to make them know of the same various advertising options have to be implemented.
