GSM and CDMA are two different standards with different functionalities and radio access technologies. It cannot be decided which is better. GSM provides much better coverage and voice quality with less complicity than CDMA. However, CDMA provides higher capacity and, of course, much higher data rates, where the GSM was not intended for data services.

CDMA method was mostly replaced by the WCDMA, which uses wider bandwidth (5MHz) to reduce the interference in the shared carrier

The diffrence is that GSM uses TDMA (Time division multiple access ) and the3G use CDMA (code division multiple access) the time

The3G is better and faster !

The main differences of CDMA and GSM are,1.CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access)after digitizing data, spreads it out over the entire bandwidth available to it.GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) is a digital mobile telephone system that is widely used around the world.

2.In CDMA network, there is one physical channel and a special code for every device in the coverage network. In GSM network, every cell has a corresponding network tower, which serves the mobile phones in that cellular area.

3.Handset network service is specific in CDMA ,but in GSM it is SIM specific, User has option to select handset of his choice ,sometime it will locked with a particular network contract for a particular periods, but we can remove it by getting the unlocking service from an provider like ClassicUnlocking.com

4.CDMA offers more efficient use of an analog transmission because it allows greater frequency reuse, as well as increasing battery life, improving the rate of dropped calls, and offering far greater security than GSM/TDMA.GSM is the dominant technology used around the globe and is available in more than100 countries. It is the standard for communication for most of Asia and Europe.5.GSM is a very straight forward standard, whereas, CDMA is somewhat complicated.

According to me gsm is better as it is globally accepted and used except some countries. You can change the sim cards whenever you like and you put that in any other phone you like. For data transfers it offers networks like GPRS, EDGE, and the latest HSDPA [3g] Technologies.

GSM system uses FDMA & TDMA, which refers to frequency/ time division multiple access , FDMA which the frequency is divided to carriers and each user has a carrier when request and TDMA which the time is divided to time slots each user has a one slot , while CDMA (code division multiple access) is the system of3G where the one carier (frequency) is divided into codes which we use orthogonal codes instead of carriers or time slots ,, cdma is better than gsm in noise , interference and capacity

offcourse CDMA is Better than GSM in alot of Aspects e.g Capacity Wise7 to8 Users per GSM Carrier while single Carrier can accomodat35 to61 Users at Full Rates. This allows to Deploy CDMA with Far greater Coverage/Range than GSM. Control Channels in CDMA are also not that Complex as Compared to GSM. In Addition Power Control in CDMA is Open Loop one which is Power saving. Rack Reciever is Used in CDMA which Enhances the Voice/Speech Qality.

These are few Aspects & Many more which makes CDMA Better than GSM.

well GSM use frequency modulation which is more universal that mkaes it easier for people to roam around.

I can't tell you which is better? but CDMA use the whole time/frequency and use codes (encoding) to distguish many users transmitting at the same time which makes great since power consumption is signficantly less, no need for frequency reuse scheme in FDMA, and it's very hard to tap (evedropping).

I hope you like this answer, and thank you for your question
