What can you create a down fall for Social Media?

(This Q is an offshoot from a Q&A, but it is an interesting point) I think, the moment the SM is overused, abused and a fatigue starting cropping in, the "returns" from the social media will steadily start diminishing and this could be a potential flash-point where the SM could start failing. Do you think this point-of-view is relevant? And if Yes or No, why?

Hello

I agree with you that Social media is bieng abused, and over valuated sometimes,  but im not sure if we can consider it as a fashion that will fade with time, its sitll shining and moving on,almost all major social media players are improving their services converting it from a traditional online communication platform, to a more complicated profitable and full of new services environment, they are adapting well until now.

For example, I cannot say that Facebook is a social media network only, soon they will act as VOIP provider, Ecommerce, Gaming Platform and much more.

I guess the main future concern for SM will be "Law Related Issues", like Privacy, Governments restrictions (or maybe taxasion), the other thing will be a huge technology change that may produce something better than current ways of communications.

I don't think that social media will diminishing, but my vision and point of view assume that the social media will grow up more and more, i will give you an example; " i think in the near future youtube will compete heavily with TV channels and some channels on youtube will be closed and you will be able to watch some channels on youtube After.... you pay  "

It was inevitable.

Because social media is not the end all be all. Social media won’t cure your marketing woes. Social media will not make you more popular. And social media will not cure cancer.

Social media is a channel (or more accurately several channels) and it always has been. Just like television, radio, email and websites.

Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and all the rest are channels.

And channels are only as good as their content.
