Can a CV writing firm be counterproductive?

A CV writing firm prepares CVs for clients for a charge. They may also send out CVs to multiple recipients for an additional charge. But if the CV writing firm uses form letters to make CVs / cover letters for all clients, then the CVs / cover letters will not be unique. They will also not be relevant to the job applied. What are your experiences / thoughts on this? How effective are such CVs / cover letters in landing an applicant a job interview? As a recruiter, what are your thoughts on this? What happens when you receive identical cover letters from job applicants? Do you look through it or do you right away press the delete button?

We prefer CV because nowadays cover letters can be copied from internet so there is no creativity but CV represents true picture which cover letter is unable to reveal.

Definitely such firms are doing well and helping candidates in formatting effective resumes and in west I saw various instances. Though in our side, this is bit new trend as due to shortage of jobs the candidates are not in position to invest more on resume and in this situation internet is the cheap and effective tool for resumes.

Now, the2nd part that being recruiter my experience, I do review many resume on daily basis and most of the time around75-80% are sending the CV alone and those who add cover letters are most of the time copy n paste and they didn’t customized it. Well, I do have few very attractive cover letters too where individual spent time to develop them as per their experience and education and this too caught my attention and I do give them a second glance and help us to short list the candidate.
