that really depends upon the nature of job you are going to do .. let say you are asked to make layout for building piles which should need to be done in  a specific tolerence so you my use either total station or theodolite to setout the required points. and for levels you can use auto levels , rotation laser  etc...

actually its depend upon the type of work. but normally for construction work we need the following tools to carry on our site survey works. 

1.Total station

2.Auto level.

3.Tripod for total station.

4.Aluminum stand for autolevel instrument.

5. 5 meter leveling stave. 

6. 2.5 Meter aluminum pole.

7.Round Prism 

8.Mini prism for accurate setting out.

9.Bipod for accurate traverse.

10.50 meter steel tape.

11.5 meter steel tape.

12.wooden pegs or steel rods  for marking.

13.white powder for marking.

14.safety cones.

15.warning tape.

16. white or any color paint.

17. station point special Nails.

18.water cooler.
