What is the difference between HDLC & Frame Relay encapsulation?

Both of them are Layer2 protocols, HDLC uses a differnt frames, and address structure frame  travel from a DTE to DCE and acknowledgment are tranfered when the frames  are received

in the case of  frame relay  DLCI -Data Link Circuit Identifier are used to itendify each point of a Link

therefre is an efficient frame handling mechanism are employed in frame relay and it is a faster service, the draw back is it needs Frame relay adaptors for communication.

HDLC can also be encapsulted in  Frame relay thereby providing efficient networking capabilities.
