Many Linux users use ClamAV to scan & remove viruses from there system but my favourite is using the backtrack live CD for the job to be done smartly.

Use chkrootkit & one can find complete tutorial for it on official backtrack OS site

You can find chkrootkit under Directory: /pentest/forensics/chkrootkit

Type in terminal to scan for viruses & don't forget to update the database before using it.

./chkrootkit - scan
