You can't put the best label on any software. The divide is mostly regional. The most famous one are Adobe Illustrator and then Corel Draw.

Both of these have their own strengths and weakness but mostly the world is leaning toward illustrator as it is supported by biggest graphic company adobe.

Though coral draw is also a nice software to work with.

If you are going to learn one then you should go with Adobe illustrator.

But if you are hiring it all depends on who you can get for minimum wage!

To give you atleast some history of vector graphics, I've used Aldus FreeHand since the birth of Desktop Publishing Software with Aldus PageMaker, then Aldus merged with Adobe some September1994 that these two famous software were separated, PageMaker acquired by Adobe and then later became the well-known Adobe InDesign CC and this FreeHand acquired by Macromedia, I really like the way FreeHand works, upto the point that you have all the control over the nodes that are the main factor of vector editing. and then came the end of Macromedia that it was sold by Adobe on December3,2005 it was even developed upto FreeHand MX bus was not updated since then but some magical tricks was acquired from FreeHand and incorporated with the latest version of the now famous Adobe Illustrator. Now, to answer your question. Illustrator is the best, but if you want to create stunning graphics with text around the path or something like that, CorelDraw is the choice. Ciao!

Adobe illustrator has been around since the beginning of time. No one disputes it, no one dares. It's the best of the best. Corel, albeit tries to come close and has its longevity, does not come close. Plus Corels market is in the windows market and try as it may, did not succeed getting into Apples realm. I know I beta tested Corel and it fell short, tried to hard to be best breed. Illustrators merits is its simplicity and UI. Features everyone has, but ease of use and consistency in design makes it a winner. If you use Photoshop then you know the tools already pretty much. Adobe standardized its pallets. That was one of the smartest things they had done. When Illustrator started out, it was cumbersome and you had to change several viewing windows to see different views. Freehand was much better at the time and had Illustrator beat. However as time went on. Things turned around as Adobe realized its potential and hired on UI designers that took the point of view of illustrators rather than engineers. That was the big move and it worked.
