Basecamp is fine for distributed teams and its licencing can be very cost effective however it's more of a project management tool than for an enterprise distributed team management tool.  To be fair, that's what's written on the box.

For small companies, it's an excellent option.

I recently had a client that insisted upon running the entire business through Basecamp. It was a massive over extension of what the tool was designed for -- project management.

Hey Yazan , Great question I prefer to us MS project rather than BaseCamp, i feel its for MAC users and am a windows user , now lets talk about Pros & Cons: i used it for 1 project and the pros : Price and upgrades are much cheaper than MS project Simplicity : the design is simple and you dont get lost while navigating Speed: They really focused on speed when developing BCX Cons: the search interface is not user friendly Reports: lack auto generated reports To-Dos & Tasks: Cannot assign specific deadlines!
