Epidemiology is the study of the human health in community, It is the scientific method of investigation problem-solving to get to the root of health problems and outbreaks in a community.

The functions of the epidemiology include:

a) discovering the agent, host and environmental factor that affect community health to provide scientific basis for prevention of disease and injury including health promotion.

b) to determine relative importance of causes of diseases, disability and death to establish priorities for public health intervention

c) Identifying at risk population at greater risk of specific diseases

d) to evaluate effectiveness of health programmes and services

I totally agree with you, plus it helps us to determine the health indicators and incidence and prevalence rate of a certain disease in order to intervene at a population level (national, regional and global levels). Hence, epidemiology is needed to improve the public health.
