Does fear inducing leadership styles promote workplace productivity?

Should staff in any given work environment work under fear of being fired if they make mistakes? Some leaders want to make their presence felt and want to be feared perhaps in a bid to make workers meet the target goals or to suppress their voice in where there is an element of exploitation. My question is can such an environment promote high productivity? Can that environment inspire workers to work effectively?

There are several leadership styles and each style varies depending in the applicability. Fear inducing leadership style is applicable to situations having a need to enforce a drastic change and the people has a chance to resist that certain change. But for a workplace productivity, fear inducing leadership style will not be applicable but instead will destabilize the system that was already effectively and efficiently running. A motivational leadership style is better to be applied to a workplace that aims to increase the productivity of each individual likewise the team. The people will not work just to comply but will perform to have progress.
