What are the best methods to solve your speaking problems?

How to overcome the four specific problems while speaking in English? A. Words are not coming into my head. What should I do? Traditional ways of learning languages did not work for many learners. Schools try to teach you everything about English. When you just try to pick up a language you will think about grammar rules, sentence structure, and vocabulary building. This will confuse you and your learning speed will be slow. So, you need to be smart in building your vocabulary first. The first key problem that you will face in terms of speaking English is that you would say that the words are not coming into my mind, therefore I am not able to speak fluently. So you need to identify the problem as a vocabulary problem. Whether you are a beginner, an intermediate user, or an advanced speaker, you can always work and improve your vocabulary. This step is relevant for everyone. Some teacher of English says “go and buy a dictionary and start memorizing words”. In fact, it is madness. There are thousand words in English. If you try to learn a dictionary, it is inefficient and it will take you years to accomplish anything in terms of developing a good vocabulary. In English, there are3 to5 thousand words that are frequently used and they are called conversational and multi-used words. So, go and pick it up, get ready at them to be an absolute beginner. Pick up the multi-used words in multiple contexts. Multiple used vocabulary like “beautiful”. So beautiful can be used in different contexts but if you choose single used words like “oregano” when you just want to build your vocabulary, it might have very limited applicability. A very easy way to build your vocabulary is by picking up multi-used words be really good at it then going to a more advanced level, using technology, recording it, and listening to it on your phone. B. I make too many mistakes. Once you have built your vocabulary, you will come to problem number two which is I make too many mistakes

There are 172 thousand words in English. If you try to learn a dictionary, it is inefficient and it will take you years to accomplish anything in terms of developing a good vocabulary.

In English, there are 3 to 5 thousand words that are frequently used and they are called conversational and multi-used words.

Once you have built your vocabulary, you will come to problem number two which is I make too many mistakes. That is of course happen because you are moving from the vocabulary stage to the sentence construction stage and here you are likely to make too many mistakes because you are not familiar with grammar rules and sentence structure.

In order to move toward spoken English, you don’t need to have perfect grammar. It is completely normal to have mistaken when you are speaking and starting out. Here, you pick up a grammar book where the concepts are explained in a very simple manner and pick hundred simple grammar rules that make up the English Language. These would be like what is a subject-verb agreement, what is a preposition, what is an adjective. You need to pick up a basic level of details by going through a simple grammar book. The important point here is that it is natural to make mistakes when you are transitioning from the vocabulary level stage to the sentence construction stage. It will be perfect to study 100 to 150 grammar rules at this stage.

C. I know English, but I am hesitant to speak.

This is called the exposure or confidence-building stage. What you need to do is to create interesting learning exercises for you. For example, there is a technic that I call picture visualization. Once you build your vocabulary and you know a little bit of sentence construction, you start analyzing some pictures. You can pick up 10 pictures and I would encourage you to do speaking exercises to help you build confidence. This will help you consolidate the vocabulary you have already built and align that with the sentence structure that you built subsequently. Similarly, you can start watching movies or listening to English commentary, or speaking in front of a mirror. All these exposure exercises will help you consolidate the learning that you have taken in steps one and two.

D. I am not confident, but how can I improve.

The best way to overcome this weakness is that you should go and speak with people in English. If you speak with a native speaker that will give you a lot of confidence. It will give you a lot of insights into how English conversations take place.

In summary, developing your English skills is very logical through the process and you must follow that process in an effective manner. Otherwise learning a language can be a very difficult task that you will be bogged down and that is what happens with the majority of people who are trying to learn English.
