For automatic save and recover of microsoft office files, you can visit the following link to get useful directions in auto-saving data: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint-help/automatically-save-and-recover-office-files-HP010140729.aspx example: To Enable the AutoSave Feature on Microsoft Word 2007, you have to:
1- Open the Microsoft Word 2007 application on your computer
2- Click on the Microsoft Office button in any open Word session.
This button is a logo of Microsoft Windows and is in the upper-left corner of Word.

3- Select the "Word Options" button in the bottom of the window that appears.

4- Choose "Save" in the left pane
5- Click on the arrow in the drop-down menu next to "Save files in this format" to select "Word 97-2003 document."
6- Place a check mark next to the "Save AutoRecover information every x minutes" section
7- Specify how often you want Word to save your document and program state by clicking on the arrows in the minutes section
8- Modify your saved file locations next to the fields of "AutoRecover file location" and "Default file location" if you want to change the file storage locations.

9- Click the "OK" button to apply and save your settings.
Note: Your system will not save any work you have done after the last AutoSave if it shuts down.
For example, if you set Word to save your work every 10 minutes, and your system shuts down 8 minutes after the last AutoSave, any work done during that 8 minutes will not be saved.

Automatic Save option in AutoCAD:When we work on a drawing, have to save the drawing file frequently to avoid any unexpected event eg.
Power/electricity failure, sudden hanging of file etc.If we unfortunately forget to save the file, have to loss the workout which we have earlier added/revised in drawing file. So,to avoid these reasons “Automatic Save”is the best option to protect from all the worries/losing work.
Method of Application: First you have to click on “Tools”menu(the dialog box will be open)in that you have to click on “Automatic Save”option. You have to give the value(in minutes)for frequency of gap for Automatic save which you prefer.Suppose, you wish to save the drawing in every5minutes so you have mention that value in dialogue box ( eg.5minutes).At last in bottom click for “OK”,your drawing file will be automatically save after each5 minutes. So,”Automatic Save” is the command which always save our valuable workout in drawing as well as great time saving also.

Of course. We go to the Office button and then settings, advanced settings, and then autosave where they can change the time of conservation

Click File > Options > Save.
Make sure the Save AutoRecover information every x minutes box is selected.
In Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, make sure to Keep the last autosaved version if I close without saving box is selected.

AutoSave is a feature in Word 2010 or 2007 that automatically saves your document at certain intervals just in case your PC malfunctions in the middle of your work.
AutoSave can be enabled or disabled by using the following steps: 1.
Word 2010 users, select File > Options.
Word 2007 users select the Microsoft Office Button and click the Word Options button.
2.
Click Save on the left pane.
3.
Now you can uncheck the box for Save AutoRecover information every x minutes if you wish to disable the AutoSave feature.
Check the box to enable it.
You can also set the length of time in between when Word saves AutoSave data.
For Graphical steps see the below mentioned link: http://www.technipages.com/word-2010-2007-enable-disable-autosave.html
