start beginning from HTML. You may find lots of tutorials and lessons online. You cn become  web developer without going to any class. Good luck!

The easiest path -in my opinion- is to buy Lynda courses about wordpress.

The reasons behind this are very simple:

1. the least amout of prerequisite experience.
2. the popularity of wordpress is staggering .
3. the end results will be stunning.
4. the support of wordpress commuinty is amazing.

You should start asking your self any part of web development you would like to be involved in

Web Development field got 3 sections

1. Web Design Layout (HTML, CSS, PhotoShop, etc..) 

2. Web Programming (JS, PHP, ASP.net, C#.net, etc..)

3. Database (MS Sql Server, MySQL server, etc..)

Usually Full dyamic web site involves all above sections 

You can start going through Web Design Concepts Like (HTML, CSS) and explore HTML Tags from W3School Website

Web Programming and Database should be only thougth by professional instructor.

Yes you can learn it on web i learnt from w3school.com i leant html & css and there is a book online names learn html&css by john ducket.

for instance you can take a look on Udacity platform and start your trip there

there way of teaching is simple, clear, and understandable
