Answer: AExplanation: Take a look at the answers to this question. What do you see? A list of processes - "Create WBS", "Develop Project Management Plan", "Develop Project Charter" and "Develop Preliminary Scope Statement". So your job is to figure out which of these processes comes next. So what clues do you have to tell you where you are in the project lifecycle? Well, you've just been authorized to manage a new project. Since the project charter is what authorizes a project manager to work on a project, it means that the Develop Project Charter process has just been performed. So which process comes next? The first thing you do after the project charter is signed is perform the Develop Preliminary Scope Statement process.

First of all, I need to know the following in regards to the project:

  • Nature of project
  • Window time for completion
  • location of the project
  • the cost involved in it
  • how it will have a direct or indirect impact on the structure of the business/company.

These are the basics to be taken into consideration before taking over the project.

Seems that the question is from old version of PMBoK, which has a separate process called "Develop Preliminary Scope Statement". According to PMBoK6 there is no such process.

As it was already explained, unless Project Charter is created, Project Manager does not get authorization. So thi is not applicable.

Create WBS can happen after scope is defined. Hence, this too is not suitable.

Option A existed in earlier editions of PMBoK, which does not exist now. According to latest versions, after Develop Project Charter, PM has to take up Develop Project Management Plan, where you develop scope statement too. According to me option D is the right answer. Please debate.

Develop Project Charter.

It will provide the details such as the Project Sponsors, Project Stakeholders, Roles and Responsibilities. Most of all it defines the Project Manager's authority in the Project.
