What are the main differences between the study of English literature and comparative literature?

  1. Comparative Literature is all about comparing two or more cultural or national backgrounds. For example studying Egyptian or Middle Eastern Literature and comparing it to Western Literature. English Literature can include any literature that has been written or translated in English and does not only involve British literature, but literature of the English Language.American Literature deals with American themes, values, ethics, history, cultural experiences of the American way as it were. I've never done Comparative Literature but I'd imagine it's quite expansive and rich is culture and history.  

In first case, you study books from UK, in the 2nd you may compare books of various countries
