1st - Background - Principles of morale. What is good (God) and bad (Evil). This is the very first and essentially important origin you need to seed in your child.2nd - Learning and Adapting. Your child will learn from you first. Discipline yourself, show it to your child and your child will follow. 3rd - Set proper rules and motivations. Your child will be trying repeat what you are doing. You should set rules and always explain in a kind manner what is allowed and what is not. Give some positive cheers everytime your child does something good and positive. 4th - Punishments. This is very important. If you won't punish, then life will punish. Always set fair punishment! It works perfectly with my child. My son loves and respects me. And I love and respect him in return.

I do believe that there is no standard way to discipline a child because it depends on the environment and kid's character and age. Sorry I am not a specialist in such a matter. However, discipline must not mean control and define a certain attitude to a child. this may lead to confusion.
