What languages would you recommend an English speaker to learn? Why?

     English, if I'm not too mistaken, is a descendent of Mercian speech and is historically a Germanic language with some Latin and Scandinavian roots; however, what truly needs to be considered is the English speaker's nationality. Is the speaker in question an American, an Englishman, a Welshman, a Scotsman, an Irishman, or a South African? Etc...although bilingualism has been proven to be quite benefecial, monolingualism does not necessarily hinder one's chance at success and prosperity, but in case there's a pursued interest on part of an American, for instance, perhaps, it would be wise for him or her to learn Spanish. After all, it is taught and incorporated as a foreign language in the majority of the US curriculum and is currently Uncle Sam's second most popular language with.5 million speakers. The obvious reason for this is due to the massive flood of documented and undocumented immigrants from Mexico where many Mexicans now form a strong percentage of soft and manual labor along with the whites. Ultimately, proximity and the socio-geographic and sociolinguistic cirmcustances are the true answer to this curious question.

Simply ,it is Arabic !

Because it is the Holy Quran language and I thing it is the most wonderful .

But if  person is not interested in what I mentioned ,then he can learn the language

that will help  him in his work or  business relations .

 

In the fields that need creativity such as learning a new language my only advice is that he/she should learn a language he/she loves regardless of any other factor. Learning a new language needs commitment and constant self-motivation; therefore desire is a key point here.

It entirely depends on where you want to settle/work in future. 

I've decided to focus on the Middle East for teaching opportunities, so it was the obvious choice ....to learn Arabic :)

 

Arabic ( 22 speaking countries , holy Quran language so Muslim world wide variety interested in ) Spanish ( whole Latin America speak plus Spain ) Portuguese ( Portugal , Brazil, Angola, muzembiq and easy to learn ) French ( most Africa, parts of Switzerland, half Belgium and of course the French culture arts and cinema )

An English speaker, should learn many languages to enable him or her to communicate with different people in different localities.

Besides English, you should learn Hindi Language. Hindi is becoming one of the most popular language of the world. At present it has rank three in the globe following English and chinese.

English, Simply because it's an international language understood by everyone worldwide, it's also an official language in many offices and also a sign of professionalism.

I recommend French & Spanish because those languages are nice to listen to.

 I recommend to learn all those which are from the same family as Frenchand Italian
