A supplier recommended to me by a friend. Is it ok to approach only that supplier and get some quotes from market just to meet the quote requirement?

Any Requests for Quotes should not be asked for without a solid intention to go ahead, dependent on the offers obtained. Providing quotes from a friend recommended supplier may be expansive than the other supplier which is a direct loss for the company and also it may be against the policy of the company. If any competitive bid, it must be healthy and equal chance of getting the order to be given to all the supplier.
