Alternator problems can happen due to various issues. The Major problems for Alternator providing no out put is as below.
1. Exitation Problem - If exitation winding can't provide sufficient exitation for producing mag flux, output will be low.
2. DC diode problem - If the DC diode for a brushless alternator is faulty. Output will be zero.
3. Winding problems- Short circuit and open circuit failures.
4. Single phase loading- Usually happens for 3 phase alternators which causes failure of one phase due to overloading.
5. Overloading - Overloading also causes for winding failures.
6. Bearing issues - If bearing is not proper , it creates rotor and stater rubbing which damages both windings.
7. AVR - AVR failures also will causes alternator failures.
8. Also speed and frequency and voltage are dependent whose variations can also affect output from AVR.
Failure of Excitation of Alternator will take power from grid. it will consume all reactive power from power grid.
Over loading
Single phase loading due to failure of one phase
windings problem
excitation problem etc
default Rectifier causes a problem of output too.
