Civil engineering books: can reading books about civil engineering, actually, develop an engineer's sense in this field?

The benefits are same for for all the disciplines. The reading of the books help in developing the engineering sense. It improves the knowledge and hence it improves in lot of skills required to deliver as excellent engineer. It facilitates in development of creative and innovative solutions. It helps in providing effective products, solutions, services. The redaing improves the analytical skills.

Ultimately it helps in advancement of the career and business.

As per civil engineering is concern , reading book is equally required with feild work i being an structural engineer still i read books , as per site work is concern , all structural detailing followed on site are as per books n code , u cant use ur thumb rule which ppl says a feild knowledge on every site ..then wat will be difference between civil engineer and a site foreman

i have been hearing this words that practical/site knowledge is different from theoretical knowledge but the fact is if you learn about civil engineering then you'll know the "work" and "site stuff" knowledge and idea to deal the site 

If you love the books you read and the people who wrote them loved what they wrote about, then my answer is yes. Of course, your experience makes you eventually the engineer you are, but what engineer would you be without books?

The less books you read during your work experience, the more knowledge you lose. Knowledge that is right in front of you and it might just pass you by if you don't look for it.  A recently graduated Civil Enginner  with no experience is a Civil Engineer, but noone can be a Civil Engineer without books...

For the reader, accessing books for any discipline would provide the reader with knowledge-based information which is an essential tool. Having knowledge based-information can help one to identify specific areas of interest within that discipline.
